I teach at Heathmont College, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. My methods are English, Humanities and Indonesian.
The Indonesian department at Heathmont College is very interested to being an advocate for Indonesian studies in the community and has been actively involved in various programs to enhance Indonesian studies in and out of the college.
This BRIDGE project is about building partnership between Heathmont College in Melbourne and SMP1 Karangmojo, Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Through this relationship, we hope to exchange professional practice between the two schools, mainly in Indonesian studies. We are involved in teacher-to-teacher and student-to-student classroom skyping. This not only provides students the opportunity to practise their language skills but also inspires them to take their learning to the next level. It is very encouraging to see students chatting animately with their Indonesian partners. Students have taken responsibility for their own learning by looking up words in the dictionaries and trying to speak in Indonesian constantly. This further builds their confidence.
